Welcome!

I have set up this blog as an archive so that John Demetriou, a fellow who published this opinion regard the lapse of the US 1994 Assault Weapon Ban and myself can discuss/debate each other with regard to gun laws, ownership, etc. This started when I posted a comment to his site and then published it here for others to see. My comment attracted him to my site and we agreed to go back-and-forth on this issue.

This format will allow us to point and counterpoint without cluttering each others comment sections or blogs. I will post notice of anything I post here to my main blog.

Should this continue beyond a couple of rounds, which I hope it will, this will serve as a useful archive and hopefully a useful and enjoyable read for anyone who finds it.

Enjoy!

You have alluded to the knee jerk reaction of politicians in crisis. Timeliness seems to take precedence over appropriateness. Certainly that was and is the case in Canada. The urban public perception is that guns are unnecessary therefore they don't blink at the draconian gun control legislation that is the Firearms Act & Regulations. Our politicians live in denial of the failures of gun bans abroad. Just last week the Home Office was exposed for lying about gun crime. So it is here. After two billion dollars for a gun registry we see the continuing rise of gang related gun crime in the urban centres. Our politicians continue to rely on the old myths and propaganda in promoting their anti-firearms ownership stance. The sole exception is the Conservative Party of Canada. They have done their homework and point out failures and the false thinking of the other parties. Ignorance is rife here on gun matters. It is up to the sporting community to educate the masses and correct their politicians at the ballot box!
